Seven Years After Our Divorce, My Ex-Husband Mocked My Life — Then a Little Boy Called Me Mom

PART 1 — “I GUESS I WON”

Seven years after my divorce, I ran into my ex-husband at a charity gala.

I hadn’t seen Daniel in almost four years.

And judging by the expression on his face when he recognized me, he hadn’t expected to see me either.

The gala was being held at a beautiful hotel overlooking the Chicago River.

Everyone was dressed in black tie and evening gowns.

Crystal chandeliers hung above the ballroom.

A jazz quartet played softly near the stage.

Seven years earlier, those words would have crushed me.

Tonight, they barely touched me.

I simply smiled.

Daniel looked almost disappointed.

“You’re not going to argue?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Because you seem happy.”

He laughed.

“I am.”

Then he added:

Daniel stared at me.

He clearly hadn’t expected that response.

Then something happened behind him.

A small boy came running acr
