The Jungle That Knew My Name
Part 1 — The Light
“The first time I saw the blue light, I thought someone was lost in the jungle. I was wrong. Something was waiting for me.”
It was almost midnight when Daniel noticed the strange glow between the trees.
He had been hiking through the jungle for hours, trying to find his way back to the main road after his flashlight suddenly died.
Then he saw it.
A soft blue light flickering deep in the darkness.
It wasn’t bright enough to light the jungle, but it was impossible to miss.
Daniel called out.
“Hello? Is anyone there?”
No answer.
The light moved.
Not like a flashlight.
It seemed to float between the trees, slowly disappearing and reappearing farther ahead.
Daniel should have turned around.
Instead, he followed it.
The deeper he went, the quieter the jungle became. Even the insects had stopped making noise.
Then Daniel noticed something strange.
Footprints.
Dozens of them surrounded the blue light.
But they weren’t walking away from it.
Every footprint was facing toward him.
Daniel froze.
A cold wind moved through the trees.
Then, from somewhere behind him, he heard a whisper.
“Daniel…”
He turned around.
Nobody was there.
When he looked back toward the blue light, it was gone.
And something was standing exactly where it had been.
Something that looked like a person.
But it wasn’t moving.
Daniel slowly raised his flashlight.
The figure lifted its head.
And smiled.
Part 2 — The Secret Beneath the Trees
“The next morning, Daniel found something buried beneath the jungle floor—and it proved that someone had been expecting him.”
Daniel ran.
He didn’t stop until the sky began turning gray.
When morning finally came, he convinced himself that exhaustion had caused him to imagine the figure.
But when he looked down at his hands, he noticed something.
A small blue mark was glowing on his palm.
He tried washing it away.
It wouldn’t disappear.
Daniel returned to the place where he had seen the blue light.
Under a large tree, he noticed an area where the soil looked freshly disturbed.
He dug into the ground.
A few inches below the surface, his fingers hit metal.
He pulled out a small rusted box.
Inside were photographs, newspaper clippings, and an old notebook.
The photographs showed people standing in the same jungle.
Some were dated twenty years earlier.
Others were dated ten years earlier.
Then Daniel found the last photograph.
His hands began to shake.
It was a photograph of him.
Standing beside the same tree.
Wearing the same clothes.
But the photograph was dated three days before he had entered the jungle.
Daniel dropped it.
Suddenly, the blue light appeared again.
This time, it was behind him.
He slowly turned around.
The light wasn’t floating anymore.
It was coming from inside a narrow opening beneath the tree.
Daniel moved closer.
A voice came from the darkness.
“Don’t open it.”
Daniel stopped.
It was his own voice.
Then the voice whispered again.
“You already did.”
The ground beneath him suddenly collapsed.
Daniel fell into darkness.
When he opened his eyes, he was inside a hidden underground room.
And covering the walls were hundreds of photographs.
Every photograph showed Daniel.
Some were from years ago.
Some were from yesterday.
And one showed him lying unconscious on the floor…
taken only a few seconds earlier.
Part 3 — What the Blue Light Was
“Daniel finally discovered the truth about the blue light. But the truth was far worse than anything he had imagined.”
Daniel stared at the photographs covering the walls.
His heart was pounding.
“How is this possible?”
Then he noticed a small door at the end of the room.
The blue light was shining through the cracks.
He opened it.
Beyond the door was a massive underground chamber.
In the center stood an old machine covered with strange symbols.
The blue light came from its center.
Beside it was the same notebook he had found beneath the tree.
Daniel opened the final page.
There was only one sentence:
“The light does not call people here. It warns them.”
Suddenly, Daniel understood.
The photographs weren’t showing people who had disappeared.
They were showing people who had been warned.
Everyone in the photographs had seen the blue light.
Everyone had entered the jungle.
And everyone had disappeared.
Then Daniel heard footsteps behind him.
He turned.
The figure from the night before was standing in the doorway.
But this time, Daniel could see its face.
It was an older version of himself.
The figure looked at him and whispered:
“You have to leave before it wakes up.”
Daniel looked at the machine.
The blue light suddenly became brighter.
The entire chamber began to shake.
Something enormous moved beneath the jungle.
Daniel ran toward the exit.
Behind him came a deep sound that didn’t sound human.
He reached the surface just as the first rays of sunlight appeared through the trees.
He looked back.
The blue light was gone.
For a moment, everything was silent.
Then Daniel noticed something on his palm.
The blue mark was still there.
But now it was moving.
It slowly formed into an arrow.
An arrow pointing toward the city.
Daniel stared at it in horror.
The blue light hadn’t been warning him about the jungle.
It had been warning him about what was coming out of it.
And somewhere far behind him…
another blue light appeared.
The End.
